Guayaquil is a very active city, as a matter of fact is one of the main producers of incomes for the country. Our city has a large amount of industries that are growing every day in all kind of goods, being the largest city in all the country, it keeps a population of about 2`500.000 millions inhabitants. Guayaquil is surrounded by the Guayas river and a few sea streams called Esteros, most of the city is build over water and has few important attractions such as Malecon 2000, Las Peñas neighborhood, place were the city was founded, this neighborhood is the only place in town that still keep the old colonial architectonic style of construction with its beautiful houses built of wood and hand forged iron for its windows, this neighborhood was the origin of painters, sculptors, writers, and musicians such as Antonio Neumane who wrote the notes for our national anthem. The warmth of our people and their kind smile will make you feel that you are in the right place. Here the Liberator Simón Bolívar met with some key persons in order to prepare their numberless plans for the liberation of the nation, leaving the great spirit of those revolutionary ideas that were the base of the ideals that we fought for our freedom. There few monuments were placed in different areas of the town to commemorate these important events, just like the Parque Seminario, place where you can find subspecies of land iguanas with green skin, different than the ones that you find at the Galápagos Islands. You could also visit the Cemetery of the city, which is famous for their sculptures made in marmol from Carrara (Italy) their big Mausoleums. Other attraction is climbing by the stairs of the Santa Ana Hill (444 steps) while you walk upstairs you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful scenery of the city and enjoy few cafeteria’s, restaurants and bars, and at the top of the hill there is the light house and a chapel. |
